I started as a player at Leicester Tigers during their most dominant era—the period when the amateur game was transitioning to professional.

I didn't learn what high performance looks like from a textbook. I learned it on the pitch, in the changing room, under pressure. I saw what it takes to win when it matters.

When injury ended my playing career, I could have walked away. Instead, I stayed at Tigers and built their community programme from scratch. We started with two people. By the time I left, we had seven staff running 18 initiatives—the UK's first self-funding, profitable rugby club community programme.

That caught the attention of Leicester City FC. They headhunted me to turn around two underperforming commercial departments. Within two years, both were delivering record-breaking revenues. The transformation wasn't magic—it was systems.

Next came Leicestershire County Cricket Club. I secured their first-ever naming rights partner, brought Elton John to the ground for a concert in front of 17,000 fans (the club's first music event), and doubled their commercial income in four years.

The pattern became impossible to ignore: the same systems that create high performance in elite sport work just as well in commercial business.
